Day of Peace Observed in Kigali

Kigali, Rwanda -The International Day of Peace program at the New Hope Technical Institute on September 24 included prayers, ceremonies, traditional dances, and songs. This was the first time that the UN International Day of Peace was celebrated in the Central District of Kigali.
The school is in the Nyarugenge District of central Kigali, and district leaders and pastors of various churches were invited to attend. One of the most well-known schools in Kigali, this institute was established by the Rwanda chapter of the Women's Federation for World Peace with the support of the international organization.
The event had three most clear interesting ceremonies that everybody enjoyed:
Greeting
May peace prevail in Rwanda.
Response: May peace prevail on Earth.
Everybody liked such a greeting style for the Day of Peace and decided to adopt it in their own areas to promote peace in their own communities.
The World Peace Prayer
The World Peace Prayer was led by Rt. Rev. Bishop Faustin Bashaka, leader of 52 United Baptist Churches in Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. His prayer touched the hearts of everyone present. He mentioned each nation in the world and called on everyone to join him in praying for peace to prevail in that nation. This made the participants feel in their hearts that peace is a shared value by all people regardless of their backgrounds.
The Peace Pole Project
The idea of a Peace Pole was introduced to Rwanda for the first time. It was a timely idea, and many present seemed amazed and challenged by such a good idea. People want more Peace Poles planted in their localities.
Rwanda has gone through a lot of difficulties in the quest for peace and unity. Therefore, people felt that planting peace poles around the country would be a good way to promote unity and peace in the nation.
The major speakers at the event were Mr. Makuuza Francis, Secretary General of UPF-Rwanda; Mr. Mpamyabigwi George, Secretary General of the Family Federation for World Peace-Rwanda; Mr. Kazubwenge, representing the mayor of the Nyarugene Distrct of Kigali, and Ms. Umubyeyi Georgette, Women's Federation for World Peace-Rwanda.
The celebration was marked by speeches, ceremonies, traditional dances, songs, and awarding certificates to those who had attended a peace seminar on September 2 and 3.
