Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso - Three conferences took place in commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Peace September 14 to 22 in Ouagadougou.
More than 400 people participated in a celebration on September 21 at the Ouaga 2000 conference room in Ouagadougou. Dr. Kone Mamidou, Secretary General of Ouaga University offered greetings. Rev. Diarra Thomas was master of ceremonies, and speakers included Mr. Koutiebou Marcel, Rev. Sasaki Tatsuo, Mme Ilboudo Mau Ngoma, Commendant Sawadogo Abdoulaye, and Professor Elie Yamba. Thirty-five new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed.
The Women's Federation for World Peace held a conference on September 19 at the Eden Park Hotel conference room. Approximately 70 people participated in the program on the theme of "Women and Peace Education," including a representative of the Minister of Human Rights. Speakers included Mrs. Libo Aguitta, President of the Family Federation for World Peace-Burkina Faso, and Rev. Sasaki Tatsuo, Senior Advisor.
The Youth Federation for World Peace organized a seminar for youth leaders and the sons and daughters of Ambassadors for Peace on September 22 at the Ran Hotel conference room. Approximately 50 people participated. Educational presentations on the theme "Youth and Peace Education" included a HIV/AIDS prevention lecture by Mr. Sidi Mohamed and role-playing of challenging situations. Ambassador for Peace certificates were presented by Mr. Ki Theirry, President of the Youth Federation for World Peace-Burkina Faso.
