International Day of Peace Celebrated in Indonesia

Indonesia-2014-09-21-International Day of Peace

Medan, Indonesia - "The Rights of Peoples to Peace: The Role of Youth in Peacebuilding" was the theme of an International Day of Peace observance in Medan on Sept. 21, 2014.

To begin the program, youth volunteers from Medan sang a song of peace together, then two students, Ms. Elvi and Mr. Amos, read the UN Statement on the International Day of Peace 2014 followed by a minute of silence.

The engaging presentation on “The Role of Youth in Peace-building” by Mr. David McLackland, education director of UPF-Indonesia, was translated into Indonesian by Mr. Juan Tobing for better understanding among the participants. Afterwards, Mrs. Ursula McLackland, regional secretary general of UPF-Asia, introduced the International Youth Convention calling on all participants to give their wholehearted support to this international UPF event to be held in Medan on Oct. 8, 2014. Everyone responded to her call enthusiastically.
