International Day of Peace Celebrated in Solomon Islands

Honiara, Solomon Islands - The UN International Day of Peace program in Solomon Islands on Sept. 20, 2014 featured a family candlelight ceremony accompanied by the song “Carry Your Candle.” The families who attended shed tears when they reflected on the event. The children were the happiest participants in the event. They demonstrated pure hearts and embraced each other with joy and gratitude. When the parents saw this, they pledge to nurture the heart of peace in their children.

After an opening prayer and song, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s message for the occasion was read by Alice Hou, president of the Women’s Federation for World Peace-Solomon Islands. This was followed by a reading of the UPF statement, showing of the video “Man of Peace,” a keynote address, and the family candlelight ceremony. A prayer and the peace song “One Family Under God” closed the event, followed by refreshments.
