Congo-Brazzaville-2016-09-24-International Day of Peace Observed in Brazzaville, Congo

Brazzaville, Congo—The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights was the site of a celebration of the UN International Day of Peace.

The meeting, which the Republic of Congo chapter of UPF held on September 24, 2016, included the awarding of Ambassador for Peace certificates to a number of dignitaries.

It also featured a report on UPF International Leadership Conferences (ILCs) in South Korea and Burkina Faso, during which regional chapters of the new International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) were launched.

The participants included three current and two former government ministers, advisers to the head of state and to the ministers, religious leaders, university professors and leaders of NGOs.

The master of ceremonies, Mr. Dieudonné Anselme Tiele-Gambia, an Ambassador for Peace, gave the opening remarks. Then Archbishop Emmanuel Dicka, also an Ambassador for Peace, offered a prayer for peace. UPF-Congo Vice Chair Dr. Julien Francis Moufonda gave the welcoming remarks.

Mr. Florent Nziengui Koumba, an Ambassador for Peace, read the official 2016 UN International Day of Peace message from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Then Mr. Clément Tsana, the secretary general of UPF-Congo, read the corresponding message from UPF International.

Mr. Cyrille Ehini, an Ambassador for Peace, reported on the International Leadership Conference held in Seoul, Korea, early in the year.

Then the president of the National Peace Council, Mr. Barthelemy Okimi, read a report about the ILC held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in August.

UPF-Congo Vice Chair Dr. Julien Francis Moufonda gave a presentation in which he explained about the five UPF Principles of Peace.

The New Hope choir, consisting of young members of FFWPU-Congo, provided entertainment.

Ambassador of Peace certificates were awarded to

  • Mrs. Rosalie Matondo, minister of forest economy, sustainable development and environment
  • Mrs. Ines Bertille Nefer Ingani, minister of promotion of women and integration of women in development
  • Mrs. Destinée Hermella Doukaga, minister of youth and civic education
  • Mrs. Norma Mercede Borges Rengifo, extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Venezuela
  • Professor Grégoire Lefouoba, a professor of philosophy and a special adviser to the prime minister
  • Dr. Martin Oyali, a policy adviser to the prime minister
  • Mr. Atigha Dah Kana, an attorney and consulting notary
