Kyiv, Ukraine—More than 400 pupils from 40 schools attended the fourth Junior Ambassadors for Peace Congress on the 2017 International Day of Peace.
The congress was held on September 21 at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War under the theme "Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All."
The partners and organizers of the event were: specialized school #85 of Kyiv city; schools participating in the UNESCO Associated Schools Project with the support of the Universal Peace Federation; the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War; the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; the Department of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration); and the Youth Federation for Peace, a UPF-affiliated organization.
Ambassadors for Peace and representatives of the international public movement Children—Ambassadors for Peace took part in the congress, as did representatives of international organizations and state institutions, Kyiv educators and parents.
UPF-Ukraine held the congress not only to celebrate International Day of Peace but also to give young people an innovative vision for peacebuilding and to award to active participants of the "Peace School" the honorary title of Junior Ambassador for Peace.
Reports were presented about peacebuilding projects that were implemented at schools this year.
Participants also performed the activities “I Give My Vote for Peace!” and “Umbrellas for Peace.”
