International Day of Peace and Peace Road 2017 - Kenya

Kenya-2017-09-30-International Day of Peace and Peace Road 2017 - Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya—Celebrations in honor of the International Day of Peace, Eid–Ul-Haj and Peace Road 2017 were held at the home of the Hon. Rashid Omar, deputy chief of the Kadhi court (Nairobi) on September 30.

In his capacity as an Ambassador of Peace, Hon. Omar called on all people to rise above the partisan lines of religion, culture and nationality and to embrace each other as one human family under God, as espoused by UPF’s principles of peace especially as Kenya prepares for the next round of presidential elections.

Frederick Wakhisi, secretary general, UPF-Kenya served as emcee. In his opening remarks Mr. Wakhisi called on religious leaders to rise up to the occasion and offer parental guidance and leadership at every level of the society so as to bridge the gap prevailing between the two political parties: Jubilee (the ruling party) and NASA (the opposition party).

The 300 participants were drawn from diverse backgrounds representing the nation’s many distinct ethnic and religious groups. Kenya’s Administration Police Band led the marchers along the three kilometer walk from the Samaj International School to the Ngong River where they participated in a ceremonial cleanup and tree planting to express to the community a message for peace and the need to care for our hearts and minds.

In addition to honoring the UN International Day of Peace and Peace Road 2017, the event also celebrated Eid–Ul-Haj, the Muslim holiday, which honors the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, as an act of obedience to God’s command.

The event culminated with the appointments of Mr. Chris Kobe and Mr. Suntinder Singh Jabbal as Ambassadors for Peace. The latter donated meals for the 300 participants. In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Singh Jabbal emphasized the need to practice a life of living for the sake of others, which is a principle promoted by the Sikh faith.

The participants were in agreement in extolling the guiding principles and ideals for lasting peace as explained by Rev. Mwalago Kililo, chairman, FFWPU-Kenya as the basic framework of thought towards promoting a culture of peace. The participants expressed a desire to follow and practice the UPF/FFWPU peace education program and Vision 2020 to advance a world of everlasting peace. The events were co-hosted by FFWPU-Kenya and YFWP-Kenya.
