Montreal, Canada—UPF-Canada commemorated the International Day of Peace with an event on “The Role of the Family in Building a World of Peace.” Around 20 people, including scholars, representatives of different faiths and two municipal councillors, attended the breakfast meeting which took place in Montreal on September 25, 2018.
The event began with a report by Mr. Franco Famularo, president of UPF-Canada, on the 32nd UPF International Leadership Conference (ILC), held in Korea in August.
Mrs. Isabelle Laurin, coordinator of the Québec chapter of UPF-Canada, then introduced the topic of the day, highlighting that the family is the only social institution in which all members of society participate fully and consistently.
She then elaborated on this by explaining that family ethics is the foundation of good citizenship; that the family is an integral part of society; and that a harmonious nuclear family is the foundation for a harmonious society, in which each individual, each family, each nation strikes a balance between contributing to the larger whole and benefiting from it. She also said all societies would benefit from promoting the harmonious nuclear family in all areas: health, education, economics, ecology, security, and so on.
