Kinshasa, DR Congo—UPF-DR Congo celebrated the UN International Day of Peace in Kinshasa, the main capital, and in Bukavu, a country town in East Congo. In Bukavu, the UPF local leader, Pastor Gilbert Boïssa, spoke to 150 participants on UPF’s Principles of Peace, good governance and character education. At the conclusion three new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed; they included two Army colonels and one lawyer.
During the event in Kinshasa, peace messages were given, people watched a video relating UPF Founder Dr. Hak Ja Han’s activities in New York and Latin America, and seven new Ambassadors for Peace were appointed.
The UN secretary general’s message for this year’s International Day of Peace was read by King Difima Ntinu, who is on DR Congo’s committee for the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace. The keynote speech, which was based on the message of Dr. Moon in Brazil on August 3, 2018, was presented by Rev Jean Pierre Kadima Mundadi, secretary general of UPF-DR Congo.
Among the 200 participants who attended the event were leaders of religious and civil society, traditional rulers, parliamentarians, and youth representatives. For two days after the celebrations, news of the event was broadcast by five radio and TV channels, including the national radio and TV stations: TELE 50, Direk TV, Radio Okapi, Top Congo and RTNC.
