Kinshasa, DR Congo—It was in the Conference Hall of the National Institute of Professional Preparation where UPF held the celebration of the UN International Day of Peace on September 21, 2019. About 150 representative leaders attended the event. Among them were traditional rulers, religious leaders, members of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), and youths, notably a group of young missionaries who were officially closing their one-year period of public mission.
The occasion was marked by the reading of the UN secretary general’s message concerning the celebration of the International Day of Peace 2019 by Hon. Nkumu Frey, chairman of IAPP-DR Congo. This was followed by a video on the Sao Tomé Summit and the appointment of eight new Ambassadors for Peace. Ms. Mulumba Isangin presented a general report about the one-year activities accomplished by the young missionaries. Three young people shared testimonies about their experiences during the year.
To finish, the secretary general of UPF-DR Congo, Rev. Jean Pierre Kadima Mundadi, gave closing remarks explaining the importance of the International Day of Peace and the role of Ambassadors for Peace.
The United Nations designated September 21 as the International Day of Peace in 1981, intending it to be a period of nonviolence and cease-fire. Each year’s celebration has carried a theme: In 2019 it is “Climate Action for Peace.”
