Kyiv, Ukraine—UPF celebrated International Day of Peace 2020 together with the VII Congress of Youth Ambassadors for Peace.
About 300 participants attended the online event on September 25, 2020. In addition to Youth Ambassadors for Peace, the participants included Ambassadors for Peace, representatives of international, state, general and educational organizations, institutions, associations, students from 35 educational institutions of Kyiv, educators, teachers, parents and one school from Armenia.
The motto of International Day of Peace 2020 was "Shaping Peace Together," whereas the theme of the Youth Ambassadors’ congress was "The Whole World Is for Peace!"
The meeting began with a recorded message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Welcoming remarks were also offered by:
- Ambassador for Peace Ashot Avanesyan, chair of the Council of National Communities of Ukraine, member of the Council of Interethnic Harmony under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and president of the National Congress of Armenians of Ukraine
- Ambassador for Peace Hon. Olga Bogomolets, a former member of Parliament
- Tageldin Hamad, vice president of UPF International and director of the UPF Office of United Nations Relations.
The speakers were: UPF-Ukraine Secretary General Mykhailo Ilin; Ambassador for Peace Tetyana Fedunova, director of School No. 85; Dr. Dmytry Gainetdinov from the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War; and Hideto Arturo Tomita Gonzalez, a Youth Ambassador for Peace from Spain.
The central part of the congress was a solemn ceremony of awarding 24 activists of school communities with the honorary title of Junior Ambassador for Peace and seven activists of university communities with the honorary title of Youth Ambassador for Peace.
In conclusion, the participants adopted the resolution of the VII Congress of Youth Ambassadors of Peace, which listed the main activities of the Youth Ambassadors for the 2020-2021 academic year.
