Melbourne, Australia—SBS Arabic Radio, a radio station in Australia, interviewed UPF-Australia assistant vice president, Mr. Will Abdo, live on air on September 21, 2021, about a virtual conference the UPF chapter held on September 18 to commemorate the UN International Day of Peace 2021.
Mr. Abdo highlighted the theme of this year’s Day, “Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World,” and discussed the current pressing concerns of the United Nations, with COVID-19 recovery efforts being a priority along with a worldwide ceasefire, climate change and a green sustainable global economy.
He also emphasized the need for humanity to make peace, think better and work together in confronting the pandemic as a common enemy to humankind.
Mr. Abdo shed light on the conference organized by UPF-Australia and the topics presented by the panel of highly distinguished speakers, which included Indian Council of Gandhian Studies Chairman Prof. N. Radhakrishnan and Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand CEO Mrs. Molly Harriss Olson, and the high calibre of the attendees.
Asked about what his expectations are for the world given the current hardships being experienced globally, Mr. Abdo said that he is optimistic for a better world, given the opportunity the pandemic has presented for a rethink on how to work better collectively and creatively in beating the pandemic as well as the work organizations like UPF and the UN are doing to connect and work with people worldwide for a more peaceful, equitable and sustainable world.
