Peshkopi, Albania—The UPF Peace Council in the northeast Albanian town of Dibër co-sponsored an International Day of Peace event in the nearby city of Peshkopi.
The first part of the program on September 21, 2023, was held outdoors at a city school that exactly 10 years earlier was named after one of the first Ambassadors for Peace in the region, Dr. Hasan Leka. The event featured the posthumous awarding of the title of Honorary Citizen of Peshkopi to Dr. Leka, who died 11 years ago.
The mayor of the city, the prefect, and the head of the district attended the event, along with more than 150 teachers, students, Ambassadors for Peace, and others. There was a celebratory atmosphere, with many performances.
About 100 people attended the second part of the program, which was moderated by Defrim Methasani, the chair of the Tirana Peace Council, who is a well-known journalist.
An important part of the program was the explanation of the meaning of the International Day of Peace and the appointment of six respected figures of the region as Ambassadors for Peace.
