Food and Clothes for Victims of Nepal Conflict

Kathmandu, Nepal - In commemoration of United Nations’ International Women’s Day, March 8, 2012, the Women's Federation for World Peace (WFWP) of Nepal distributed free food and clothes distribution to the 32 elderly women, 5 elderly men, and 48 children who are victims of Nepal’s ongoing conflict. The program was held at the Ama Ghar Mothers' Home, just south of Thamel in Kathmandu.
Mrs. Dil Shobbha Shrestha, Director and Founder of the Social Management and Welfare Trust, or Ama Ghar, is a warm-hearted mother. She tearfully explained how she had saved the elderly widows who had become weak and hopeless from living on the streets. Two are blind, one is mute and deaf, and many have lost their memory. They want people with ears to hear their stories, answers their queries, eyes to see their world, and above all, a sense of belonging - assurance that they too can be a part of someone’s life.
During the past ten years of conflict between the Maoists and the government, people have looked at each other as enemies and killed out of resentment. Many innocent children have been victimized by soldiers on both sides or have lost their parents in the conflict; many people still don't know whether their missing relatives are dead or alive. Despite such extremely challenging circumstances, Mrs. Dil Shoba has created a very strong family feeling between the children and the mothers she also cares for. Three of the children are girls younger than 5, and the rest are boys between 3 and 15 years old. After seeing the way she takes such good care of people, many NGOs have begun supporting her sacrificial and humanitarian service.
Twelve WFWP-Nepal board members and volunteers distributed gifts of clothing and food. The residents of Ama Ghar gratefully received the gifts accompanied by expressions of love from the WFWP-Nepal team. WFWP-Nepal also donated Rs. 11,000.00 (US$140) for food for the recipients and helped serve a meal. The students in the group were overwhelmed to see their small efforts bring smiles to the faces of the recipients, old and young. All in all, they found it a blend of a whole new set of experiences and fruitful learning.
Mrs. Blessie Dhakal, WFWP-Nepal President, talked about WFWP Founders, Father and Mother Sun Myung Moon, who have dedicated their life to public service. She also briefly introduced the activities of WFWP-Nepal in its four main branches nationwide: Kathmandu, Chitwan, Sarlahi, and Dhading.
One TV journalist and three reporters from different newspapers covered the event. The program was a huge success, thanks to the collective effort of the WFWP-Nepal and its volunteers.
This is the fourth time WFWP sponsored this type of project. A letter of appreciation was given from Ama Ghar to WFWP-Nepal expressing their heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the series of service projects held their over the years.
