Forum in Siberia: “Men Will Save the World, and Women Will Save the Men!”

Russia-2014-03-07-Forum in Siberia

Novosibirsk, Russia - “Equality for women means progress for all,” wrote U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in his message for the 2014 observance of International Women’s Day.

In Novosibirsk—Russia’s third-largest city, which is known as “the capital of Siberia”—an expanded meeting of the Siberian Peace Council was held March 7 in honor of International Women’s Day. Women of Novosibirsk used the occasion to share their views about the role of women in peace education for the community.

Galina Ermolina, the regional department coordinator of the international interfaith organization United Religions International, presented a series of paintings that capture the leading role of women in humankind’s spiritual development.

Referring to the family traditions of Siberia’s native peoples, Rimma Petrovna Zvereva, the president of the Siberian Academy of Traditional Folk Culture, spoke about noted women peacemakers in Northern Eurasia.

Young Ambassador for Peace Maria Lelekova reported on the work of the Young Women's Club, in which women learn to understand their inner world and their role in the development and establishment of men’s character. She cited the slogan "Men will save the world, and women will save the men!"
