Moscow and Novosibirsk, Russia - Representatives of the Universal Peace Federation, Russian branch took part in the traditional International Women’s Day celebration on March 8 at the UN Informational Center in Moscow under the slogan, “Equal rights, equal opportunities mean general progress.” The UPF representatives supported the UN call for NGOs and public organizations to increase their efforts to secure women's rights and opportunities in modern society.
Women’s Day was celebrated in the Children’s Home in Udelny, in the Moscow region. On the eve of the event celebration, volunteers from the Youth Federation for World Peace and their friends came to the Children’s Home to congratulate all the women working there and all the girls. The initiators reported:
“The usual practice of celebrating such events is handing picture cards, gifts, cakes. We bought gifts for the teachers but we decided to make picture cards and the cake together with the children. The girls as future housewives said they would make the cake themselves. The boys took up making picture cards for their teachers and girls. The celebration was wonderful, everybody was involved in the activity, wholly investing their sincerity and heart."
In Novosibirsk, Young Ambassadors for Peace organized a celebration of the International Women’s Day for the citizens. Anastasia Mikhakhanova reported:
“March 8 is such a remarkable day! It is associated in our country with the beginning of spring, warmth and many warm smiles of the better half of humankind. We wanted to see smiles on the faces of women working in the Central Market of Novosibirsk city, who were not expecting to receive congratulations on that day. We wanted to bring joy and inspiration to them and show an example to the youth of how much more pleasing it can be to share joy than to just receive it.
We invited people to join in our performance. The atmosphere at the market became festive. Women came from all directions asking us to sing for them. All were sharing joy, songs, dances and smiles!”
