UN International Day of Peace Celebrated With Olive Tree Planting

Buenos Aires, Argentina—UPF-Argentina planted an olive tree to commemorate the UN International Day of Peace in Parque de los Patricios on September 25, 2019. The event was celebrated in the month when this Buenos Aires neighborhood celebrated its 117th anniversary, and it supports the 2019-2020 campaign “Let’s Plant Trees: Let’s Sow Peace.” After the planting, guests were invited to a beautiful hall where Ambassador for Peace Horacio Daboul, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Parque de los Patricios, gave a brief speech about this date, established by the United Nations to strengthen the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. This year’s theme is “Climate Action for Peace.” The celebration included different artistic numbers: the lyrical singer Valentín Delauro; dance group of the Women of the Argentine Collectivities Federation (FAC) and the Chilean Center Bernardo O’Higgins; songs from Japanese Ambassadors for Peace Yuri and Rie; and a recitation and song by poet and songwriter Richard Sáez.
At the end, Gerardo Lucá, president of the Rotary of Collectivities satellite of Parque de los Patricios Rotary Club and vice-president of FAC, made a “toast for peace,” with the banner of the global initiative “Peace Road,” whose theme is “Connecting the World through Peace.”
The activity was organized by UPF-Argentina and the Rotary Club of Collectivities satellite of Parque de los Patricios Rotary Club, Argentine Federation of Collectivities (FAC), the Chamber of Commerce of Parquet de los Patricios, and Commune 4. It was supported by Parque de los Patricios’ Community Society; Cultural and Social Arab League; Art Workshops and more, and Women for a Peaceful World - San Clemente del Tuyú (Buenos Aires Province); “América Madre,” Headquarters (Córdoba); International Forum for a Culture of Peace (IFLAC) - Pehuajó branch (Buenos Aires Province); Province Writers Society (SEP) – Mar del Plata branch; FUNDARTES; International and Universal Literary-Philosophical Academic Movement RealIZAR LA PAZ; Literary School Resplandeciente-Latidos Literarios Lúcidos; the literary movement “Ecos, Ética y Estética;” El Faro del Sur newspaper and radio programs “Diplomacia, Política y Economía” and “Pasaporte Cultural.”
