UPF-Peru—UPF Peru celebrated the UN Day of Peace in the city of Pucallpa, located on the Ucayali River in the Amazonian rainforest of eastern Peru, on October 15, 2021. The event included the appointment of 38 new Ambassadors for Peace and was held in the auditorium of the Ucayali Bar Association in the city of Pucallpa, Ucayali region. The event brought together 80 people.

The meeting was attended by the president of the Superior Court of Justice of Ucayali, Dr. Américo Urcino Torres Lozano, and Dr. Arlene Falcón Guerra, obstetrician-gynecologist and professor at the University of Ucayali. Both were recognized as Ambassadors for Peace during the gathering. Mr. Jaime Fernandez, secretary general of UPF-Peru, chaired the meeting and Dr. Trevor Jones participated in the meeting via Zoom.

The panellists shared their thoughts and reflections about UN International Day of Peace’s theme, “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.” The speakers acknowledged the work of the United Nations and the Universal Peace Federation to defend human rights and peace and confirmed their commitment to building a culture of peace in their region.

Dr. Américo Torres Lozano reminded the audience that within the framework of peace-building, the State makes conciliation available to citizens as a mechanism for conflict resolution. “Peace begins within each person,” he added. For her part, Dr. Arlene Falcón Guerra expressed the importance of raising future professionals in the region with principles and values, and thus generating a culture of peace.

Likewise, Dr. Trevor Jones welcomed the new ambassadors and called on the audience to join UPF’s initiatives and continue working in unity for peace. As part of the appointment ceremony for the new Ambassadors for Peace, Mr. Jaime Fernandez, secretary general of UPF-Peru, presented to the audience the 5 Guiding Principles of Ambassadors for Peace for the construction of a good society, highlighting the principle of “Living for the Good of Others and the Family as the foundation of Peace.”

The 38 new Ambassadors for Peace included district authorities, lawyers, businessmen, doctors, nursing technicians and leaders of civil society committed to promoting peace in the region. Mr. Pablo Pezo Cárdenas, a prominent journalist from Pucallpa, directed the ceremony and the photo session was led by Mr. Ivan Lostaunau, photojournalist for UPF-Peru.
