Youth UPF

UPF offers young people the opportunity to develop their capacity as leaders and peacebuilders and work together for the greater good, alongside people of many nations, cultures and religions. Freetown, Sierra Leone - UPF-Sierra Leone launched Student Peace Initiative in nine leading secondary schools in the capital on December 11. Character education training was offered to sixteen students, who are encouraged to start peace clubs at their schools.

Pokrovskoye, Urals, Russia - In the village of Pokrovskoye, Sverdlovsk region (Ural), classroom sessions were led on the topic of “Self Development – Development of Relationships – Development of Territories” on December 3 as part of the City Helps Village Project. Among the participants were children of the 5th and the 8th forms of the village school.

Moscow, Russia - The first meeting of the peacemakers’ club “Young Peace Ambassadors” took place November 19. The club was created as an educational and discussion platform and a way for young activists to meet and share their experiences.

Moscow, Russia - The National Council of Youth and Children's Associations of Russia, with support of the Russian Federation Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs, held a meeting in Moscow of youth leaders to promote cooperation among youth in the Barents Sea region October 15-17.

Dushanbe, Tajikistan - The Universal Peace Federation and the Tajikistan Peace Foundation participated in a September 8 independence celebration at the Protection Center for Children, Refugees and Socially Vulnerable Citizens. The event was organized by refugee children, who created drawings on the theme of peace and prepared a performance.

Karelia, Russia - The second International Innovation Forum “Hyperborea – 2010” took place August 3-9 on the theme of “Active Youth.” it was initiated by the State Committee of Youth Affairs of the Karelian Republic and the Regional Youth Center of Karelia. The main purpose was to train an international youth team of Hyperboreans, self-developing people with high morals and ability to formulate and realize their goals.

London, UK - From campaigners against child soldiers in Africa to those who were battling gang violence on the streets of London or environment clean up service projects, the common theme of the Youth Achievement Awards event in the House of Lords Committee Room on July 14 was exemplary young people who, as Tom Brake MP commented, had ‘got off their butts and in some cases had put their life on the line to make a difference’

Moscow, Russia - The Moscow City Hall Department on Family and Youth gave a special award to UPF-Eurasia's Internet site, www.eurasia.upf.org. It received first prize in a contest of Internet sites with resources for preventing extremism and xenophobia among youth.

St. Petersburg, Russia - UPF's sixth Youth Forum, on the theme of “Our Common Tomorrow,” brought together students from various universities and representatives of public organizations. The program gave participants a chance to talk about their activities and learn about the peace culture promoted by Young Ambassadors for Peace.

Choiseul, St. Lucia - The Universal Peace Federation and the Ambassadors for Peace of St Lucia conducted a five-day camp during the summer of 2009. Almost 100 teenagers participated in the learning, recreation, and service activities.
