Vatican City – UPF's president Dr. Thomas G. Walsh, along with the secretary general of UPF-Argentina, Miguel Werner attended a Jan. 13, 2014, consultation at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences on "Syria: Can We Remain Indifferent?"
“It would be better to devote 364 days to peace and only one day to the war, rather than the other way.” These are the words of Carlo Chierico, President of UPF-Monza and Brianza UPF, at an International Day of Peace event on September 21 in Monza. In Bergamo, representatives of various faiths poured water on a "Tree of Peace" that was planted in 2008. In Milan, UPF hosted a program of prayers and music from various faith traditions.
Monza, Italy - In collaboration with the Committee of UISP Monza (the “Italian Union of Sport for All”), UPF-Monza promoted the eighth annual "Peace Cup" tournament among ten teams representing the various nationalities of people living in the area.
Milan, Italy - The first Interreligious Lunch organized by the Interfaith Youth Council of Italy took place at the UPF office in Milan Nov. 27, 2012. The event brought together believers of three different traditions and eight countries.
Monza, Italy - For the eighth consecutive year, UPF promoted an an interfaith prayer vigil in the square in front of the Monza Town Hall on the International Day of Peace, September 21. The event had the support and patronage of the Municipality and the Province of Monza Brianza.
Milan, Italy - Six Italian youth gathered for the first working meeting of the Interreligious Youth Council in Milan on Sept. 9, 2012 and dedicated the first hour to getting to know each other.
Monza, Italy - Many say that peace can be reached through sports. The world-famous Pele himself said he has experienced how football can stop conflict at least temporarily, and this was exactly what UPF-Monza had in mind. On June 24, the final matches of the UPF Monza’s Trophy of Peace were held. It was the final day of a nearly three-month football tournament, organized by Carlo Chierico, the Monza UPF president.
Monza, Italy - Now in its seventh year, the Peace Trophy football tournament opened on April 29 and will continue with matches every Sunday afternoon until June 24. With teams representing the various cultures and backgrounds of the people in northern Italy, the competition encourages good sportsmanship, friendship, and mutual respect.

Assisi, Italy - To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, an important interreligious meeting was held in Assisi, the city of Saint Francis, from September 9 through 11, with the theme “East Meets West for a New Civilization of Peace.”
Pesaro, Italy - An Ambassador for Peace in Pesaro invited Giorgio Gasperoni from the Universal Peace Federation and Alessandra Tomassi from the Women's Federation for World Peace to give a presentation to his students about Africa Day on May 25.
Bergamo and Milan, Italy - International Day of Families events are scheduled for Milan on May 15 and Bergamo on May 20 and 21.

Pesaro, Italy - UPF-San Marino held a conference in Pesaro on January 29 to support the World Food Program's campaign to end world hunger by 2015, the first of the eight Millennium Development Goals.
Rome, Italy - As a follow-up to the "Cakes for Peace" competition in December, the Iraqi Ambassador to the Holy See invited the president of UPF-Italy and the the president of the Federation of Catholic Associations and Parishes in Italy for a briefing on January 13 about prospects for cooperation and peace.
Rome, Italy - Expert chefs, members of the Italian Food and Wine Institute, and diplomats from 15 embassies evaluated ten submissions to UPF's Cake for Peace contest on December 11 at the Institute for Tourism in Velletri.
