Lebanese Ambassador for Peace H.E. Fouad El-Turk died, at age 80, of a stroke in the early hours of July 17. Ambassador Turk was a pivotal figure in Lebanese diplomacy and an honest leader in advocating politics and policy making in the true interest of the nation. He was ambassador to the United Nations and countries in Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

Buenos Aires, Argentina - “Principios universales y metas de la vida,” “Origen del conflicto y causa del sufrimiento,” y “Principios de restauración y sentido de la historia” fueron las conferencias que se dieron en el Seminario “Introducción al Unificacionismo: Una nueva visión de paz y desarrollo”, que tuvo lugar el sábado 14 de julio, en la Embajada para la Paz<, en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
In 2011, the UPF Founders, Dr. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon, accompanied by the UPF executive leadership team, traveled in Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa to speak to the public on the theme of “Building a World of Universal Peace.” Previous peace tours took place in 2005-07 and in 2009.
Luala Lumpur, Malaysia - Silent tears of love and affection were shed by the family members and close friends of five Malaysian personalities and a Filipino leader whose lives were celebrated at a Legacy of Peace program in Kuala Lumpur on July 11.
Humanitarian Service
In response to natural disasters, UPF provides donations and volunteers to help with immediate relief and longer-term cleanup. After the tsunami in Japan, youth cleaned debris from homes. When Thailand was struck by floods, volunteers brought food and water to stranded survivors and cleaned an Islamic school. Other recent projects aided people in Haiti, Pakistan, and India.
Religious Youth Service
Experiential learning programs bring together youth from different cultures and religions in order to promote mutual understanding and respect. Participants serve a community in need, visit religious and historic sites, and learn communication and team-building skills.
Sports for Peace
Young people from diverse backgrounds compete as teams in popular sports such as football. Coaches focus on respect and sportsmanship to promote personal development and community cohesion.
Buenos Aires, Argentina - El Consejo de Paz de la UPF Argentina realizó el 6 de julio una nueva Cena Solidaria, un momento de amena confraternización y buena música, para reunir fondos para seguir adelante las distintas actividades e iniciativas, en el marco del lema con el cual se comenzó el año: “Donde hay voluntad, existe un camino”.
When the former communist nation of Yugoslavia broke up in the early 1990s, few could have envisioned the scope of ethnic and religious conflict that would visit the region with such ferocity. Two decades later, there is general stability in the region; yet, tensions among some nations and ethnic groups remain high.
- Goal: Resolve historical conflicts among peoples and nations in the Balkans region, with particular focus on Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia.
- Method: Consultations among political, social, and religious leaders in the region as well as from the wider European community to consider paths to peace in the Balkans.

The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, also known as Rio 2012, was hosted June 13-22, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This was a follow-up to the UN Conference on Environment and Development held in the same city 20 years earlier. The conference was organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
