Kathmandu, Nepal - "Clean and Green Nepal," a nationwide garbage separation education campaign was launched in Nepal on September 2. With a sense of civic pride, 1000 participants, including volunteers from 50 colleges in Nepal and four colleges in India, cleaned up Ratna Park in Kathmandu.

Chitlang, Nepal - Thirty-six participants and four staff members set out by bus on June 2 from Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, to the village of Chitlang, where we would spend seven days together serving a school and local community. It was an interesting, valuable, and educational experience; we will never forget how we survived with limited resources, good lectures, and leadership training.
Since 2002, Religious Youth Service has been organizing service-learning programs to build understanding, respect and cooperation among youth of Nepal's Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim communities. Here is a sampling of reports of projects through 2012.
Kathmandu, Nepal - Interactive forums, peace and family educational programs, and distribution of scholarship grants to poor and less privileged students were features of the UN International Day of Families programs throughout Nepal between May 5 and 14. Nationwide, around 1400 people participated in events in 15 cities.

As thousands of Maoist fighters were being released from military cantonments wher they had lived since 2006, religious leaders from eight faith traditions were commemorating the UN’s second annual World Interfaith Harmony Week in Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara, Nepal.

Lumbini, Nepal - The Universal Peace Federation opened its service project at a primary school in Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, on December 1, the same day the government of Nepal launched a campaign to promote tourism and development of its key Buddhist shrines.
Kathmandu, Nepal - In a nationwide broadcast by Himalaya Television, UPF-Nepal hosted an interactive discussion that focused on the importance of marriage and family for lasting peace and social development. The program was filmed at UPF’s Peace Embassy in the capital, Kathmandu, and broadcast on November 9.

Kathmandu, Nepal - “Peace and democracy are inseparable,” Hon. Dhan Raj Gurung, Member of Congress, stated at the commemoration of the International Day of Peace, September 21, at the Peace Embassy in Kathmandu.
“I dream of an Africa which is in peace with itself.” Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a quote of an African hero Nelson Mandela. Then how Africa can attain such peace with itself? We need responsible leadership and good governance to accomplish it.
Kathmandu, Nepal –UPF-Nepal partnered with The Universal Times, a weekly Nepali-language tabloid, to hold a training on June 2 for key leaders and secretariat staff from affiliated peace organizations.
Kathmandu, Nepal – The College of Journalism and Mass Communication organized the first-ever African Film Festival in Nepal beginning May 23, running for three days and ending on the African Union's Africa Day program. The Universal Peace Federation of Nepal supported the festival along with the International Association for Women in Radio and Television, the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of South Africa.
Saptari, Nepal - UPF-Nepal organized an International Day of Families celebration at a school in Saptari on May 16. A special feature of the event was awarding scholarships to deserving students.
