C.S. Yong: 8th Anniversary of Nepal's Peace Process

On the same day they came to Nepal to inaugurate UPF, Nepal’s peace process began. The 12-point Memorandum of Understanding was signed in New Delhi between the Maoists and the Seven Party Alliance. The beginning of ending the decade-long war that left as many as 15,000 Nepalese people dead was on the same day as UPF’s inauguration in Nepal: Nov. 22, 2005. We are here in memory of that event eight years ago.

Day of Peace Observed with Meditation and Sports Events in Nepal

These programs included a national martial arts tournament supported by Nepal’s National Sports Council, a student interaction and mediation co-sponsored with the Shanti Sewa Ashram, and a “Play Soccer for Peace and Reconciliation” competition that included 24 teams.

Raising Young Leaders to Build a Nation of Peace in Nepal

Five-day seminars on UPF's Principles of Peace are being offered in various parts of Nepal. A seminar in Kathmandu August 5-9 attracted participants from Nepal and India. An overflow audience of 350 attended the August 15-19 seminar in Biratnagar. Leaders from four faith traditions demonstrated their commitment to interreligious cooperation by jointly pouring water onto a plant at the opening of the August 25-29 seminar in Nepalgunj.

Biratnagar, Nepal - “The response was unexpected; it was overwhelming,” reported Mr. Prakash Babu Thapa, the President of Nepal’s chapter of the student organization, World–Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles. He was giving details about a second five-day Principles of Peace seminar conducted August 15-19 in southern Nepal where organizers had planned for 220 participants at the Opening Session – but instead 350 guests showed up.

S.A. Khan: Reflections on the Religious Youth Service in Nuwakot, Nepal

The journey of this year’s Religious Youth Service project in Nepal started on June 1 when participants got on the bus heading from Kathmandu Valley to Nuwakot. Throughout the bus ride, the scenery of the surrounding places enchanted everyone because of its mountainous picturesque beauty. Although the bus journey went a little bumpy, the exhaustion went away once the participants arrived at the Shree Bhairam Secondary School, where the school principal along with the teachers and students greeted the participants with their traditional silk scarf, vermilion, and flowers.
