Empowerment of Women
UPF supports UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls for increasing involvement of women in preventing and resolving conflicts, peace negotiations, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconstruction. Furthermore, the majority of the poor people of the world are women and children, and global poverty cannot be solved without the empowerment of women and the leadership of women. Kathmandu, Nepal - “Women need to be involved in every area of society, including those more traditionally dominated by men,” Dr. Mohini Giri, Chairwoman of India’s Guild of Service and founding president of the Women's Federation for World Peace-India, told a June 23 forum in Nepal that included four Members of Parliament. She specifically named the legal profession, politics, and economic enterprises.

Sahab, Jordan - A Mothers' Day celebration on April 3 brought together Iraqi women and their families who are living in Jordan. A daughter paid tribute to her mother, and two mothers talked about how they overcame difficult challenges in caring for their families.

Monrovia, Liberia - The International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security was held on March 7-8, 2009 in Monrovia, Liberia.
