Empowerment of Women

UPF supports UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls for increasing involvement of women in preventing and resolving conflicts, peace negotiations, peacebuilding, and post-conflict reconstruction. Furthermore, the majority of the poor people of the world are women and children, and global poverty cannot be solved without the empowerment of women and the leadership of women. Durham, North Carolina, USA - A statewide UPF program titled “The New Era of Women Leadership” was held on April 28 at the Lovin’ Life Ministries center in Durham, North Carolina. It aimed to raise awareness of human-rights violations in Japan, Liberia, and the United States.

New York, USA - In parallel and side events during the 56th Session of the UN's Commission on the Status of Women in February and March 2012, UPF representatives emphasized strengthening the family and combating human trafficking.

Washington, DC, USA - A professor of women's studies at the University of Tunis in Tunisia, Mrs. Houda Zaibi Belhassen shared insights into the "Arab Spring" in her native Tunisia to a select audience at The Washington Times on January 25. She particularly noted the progressive Personal Status Code that offers special protection to women and children.

More than 40 women leaders from the Middle East, North Africa, Gulf States, as well as from Europe and Asia, gathered in Thessaloniki, Greece in May 2011 for the fifteenth annual “Women’s Conference on Peace in the Middle East.”

Thessaloniki, Greece - The Women's Federation for World Peace International and its Japanese chapter organized the 15th Conference for Peace in the Middle East in Thessaloniki, Greece from May 24 to 27. Forty women from 20 countries of the Middle East, Europe, and the Far East gathered to discuss the theme "Women in War and Reconstruction."
