St. Petersburg, Russia - A scientific and practical conference on the topic of “Moral and ethical character education in the 21st century: Efforts towards a new stage of development” took place in St. Petersburg on November 7.
UPF activities in Moscow during October included cultural, educational, and youth programs.
Several activities took place in the Urals region in October 2009 that promoted tolerance, brought people of different generations together, and explored cultural values that can be drawn upon for peacebuilding.
Peace education was the focus in Ryazan and character education in Ivanovo.
St. Petersburg, Russia - A lecture on “Shaping of international tolerance in education of young people and teenagers” explained internal and external causes of children’s intolerant behavior and offered ways of solving problems.
The International Leadership Conference on “The Significance of Marriage and Family for Peace in the 21st Century” brought together delegates from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Latvia, Mongolia, People's Republic of China, Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan as well as other parts of the world. People were moved in various ways by their experiences in Korea.
Sportsmen from all over the world came to Korea October 12-13 for the Wongu Peace Cup, an international and intercultural sports event including football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, ping-pong, badminton, and martial arts. Athletes participated in the competitions as representatives of their native countries and continents, in an atmosphere of friendship and tolerance.
Moscow, Russia - A UPF representative addressed a review of the UN Report on “Overcoming Barriers: Human Mobility and Development” at a forum at Moscow State University on Oct. 5, 2009.
St. Petersburg, Russia - Students participated in the project "The Baltic Sea Is Our Common Sea."
Moscow, Russia - A variety of activities connected to the International Day of Peace took place in the Moscow region, including a festival, a round-table discussion, a Play Football Make Peace Tournament, and a wreath-laying ceremony honoring UN Peacekeepers.
Pervouralsk, Russia - Students made gifts with symbols of peace to send to children in Georgia.
Yekaterinburg, Russia - Children at an orphanage learned about peace and made paper cranes.
Serov, Russia - Senior citizens celebrated peace with children at a rehabilitation center.
Chelyabinsk, Russia - Children wrote messages of goodwill on balloons and gave them to others.
Revda, Russia - People walking on the street were invited to make cranes, doves, and angels symbolizing peace.
Moscow, Russia - UPF met with an organization in Russia that works with veterans from the north side of the front line of the Korean War on Aug. 30, 2009.
Moscow, Russia - The Eurasian Peace Council supports a global call for ceasefire.
Kaluga, Russia - A unique Dialogue Camp for Youth was held August 20-23, 2009 in Kaluga, a city southwest of Moscow. Two hundred and fifty young people from non-commercial youth organizations participated in the project; among them were representatives from Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Baltic states, Western Europe, and foreign students attending Russian universities.
Asan, Korea - On August 14 and 15, a football tournament was held in Korea among four teams representing North, South, West and East. The North was represented by the team from Russia that also included representatives from the Ukraine and Moldova.
