Various aspects of human development were explored in discussions among students and among academics.
Moscow, Russia - UPF-Russia showcased two of its volunteer projects at the Moscow Volunteer Rally on Dec. 7, 2010, at the State University of Management.
Moscow, Russia - Konstantin Zharinov, coordinator of the North-East Asia Peace Initiative for UPF-Russia, played the role of an expert in relations between North and South Korea during a Model UN hosted by the Russian Humanitarian University in Moscow. This fourth annual student simulation of UN proceedings took place from November 30 to December 3 and was attended by 140 students from Moscow, Novosibirsk, and Kaliningrad.
Pokrovskoye, Urals, Russia - In the village of Pokrovskoye, Sverdlovsk region (Ural), classroom sessions were led on the topic of “Self Development – Development of Relationships – Development of Territories” on December 3 as part of the City Helps Village Project. Among the participants were children of the 5th and the 8th forms of the village school.
St. Petersburg, Russia - An annual youth conference commemorating World AIDS Day took place at the Youth House in St. Petersburg on Nov. 30, 2010.
Moscow, Russia - UPF-Russia sponsored a workshop-discussion on “Human rights and challenges of the 21st century” on November 20, the 60th Anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights and fundamental freedoms. The theme drew the attention of many Ambassadors for Peace, representatives of youth, non-governmental and religious organizations, as well as experts in human rights.
Moscow, Russia - The first meeting of the peacemakers’ club “Young Peace Ambassadors” took place November 19. The club was created as an educational and discussion platform and a way for young activists to meet and share their experiences.
Yekaterinburg, Russia - Youth Peace Ambassadors from the youth organization “Sirius” in the town of Serov held a training in Yekaterinburg on November 19 for children on the topic of “Unity: Game or necessity?”
Yekaterinburg, Ryazan, and Kondopoga Russia - Representatives of UPF took part in discussions, debates, and an interreligious gathering in honor of the UN International Day of Tolerance, Nov. 16, 2010.
Moscow, Russia - A workshop on Unification Thought entitled the ”Dual Characteristics of the Universe and Original Human Nature” took place in Moscow on November 11. UPF-Russia Secretary General Konstantin Krylov discussed the origin of the universe and human beings; the existence of the wise Creator and His plan; and the purpose and meaning of human life.
Novosibirsk, Russia - An all-Russia scholarly conference on “Extremism as a Philosophical Problem” took place on November 25 in in the Architecture and Construction University in Novosibirsk.
Turinsk, Russia - A workshop on Value-oriented Volunteerism took place as part of the annual educational program, the Baikal ecological and tourism volunteer project on Oct. 30, 2010.
Moscow, Russia - UPF-Eurasia hosted a farewell gathering for Dr. Katsumi Ohtsuka, Chair of UPF Eurasia, on October 28 in Moscow. In his speech he expressed his gratitude to the UPF activists for their important work in the CIS.
Yekaterinburg, Russia - On October 24 in Yekaterinburg, the meeting of the UPF-Ural chapter representatives and "Sodruzhestvo" club members took place. The founder of the club is a Protestant, A.B. Patrakov. Among the members are people of different nationalities and religions who practice a unified system of spiritual and moral values of all cultures and religions beyond theological differences and interreligious strife. The UPF pursues the same objective.
Pokrovskoye, Russia - On October 23, another in the series of volunteer initiatives in the Urals, "City Supports Village: Pokrovskoye," took place. Multilateral cooperation, volunteer service, cultural programs, and interaction among the generations are main features of the initiative; all these elements were present that Saturday.
Moscow, Russia - The National Council of Youth and Children's Associations of Russia, with support of the Russian Federation Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs, held a meeting in Moscow of youth leaders to promote cooperation among youth in the Barents Sea region October 15-17.
Yekaterinburg, Russia - The second "Gift" International Youth Film Festival took place October 8 to 10 in Yekaterinburg. The main purpose of this important event is to stimulate and develop traditions of charity and volunteerism in society, especially among youth. This year the festival coincided with the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Nizhny Novgorod, Russia - Young Ambassadors for Peace went to the main street of the city on September 25 and appealed to citizens to donate to the Rehabilitation Center, which provides social support for people with no fixed dwelling.
Moscow, Russia - On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, three programs from UPF-Russia were posted on the UN Internet Site as model programs among others by organizations throughout Europe: the Youth Peace Ambassadors, Play Football Make Peace, and the South Caucasus Peace Initiative.
Moscow and Zelenograd, Russia - "We Pursue Peace" was the theme of the September 21 International Day of Peace celebration at the Russian State Humanitarian University, with support of the Universal Peace Federation and the Model UN Secretariat. On September 20, UPF participated in the "March for Peace organized by the Federation of Peace and Concord in Moscow. In nearby Zelenograd, students in school No. 1923 honored the International Day of Peace by observing a Minute of Silence.
